Pokemon Black Version 2 & Pokemon White Version 2 are direct sequels to Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. Third entries in each Pokemon generation usually follow the same storyline, occasionally adding new areas, new Pokemon forms and new plot points to the adventure, while combining Pokemon from the preceding two games into one cartridge. While many people expected Nintendo to follow this trend to complete the Black and White "trilogy," the company instead announced two new sequels to be released simultaneously for the Nintendo DS. Pokemon Black 2 & Pokemon White Version 2 will be compatible with the Nintendo 3DS (in 2D mode) and will integrate two 3DS applications, thePokemon Dream Radar and Pokedex 3D Pro.

Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 are set in the Unovaregion, two years after the events of Black and White. The land has undergone significant changes in that time, including most of the map mysteriously being covered in ice. The game will feature a brand new storyline, with new Protagonists (a new girl and a new boy, whom players can decide between at the game's outset), a new Rival, new Gyms andGym Leaders, new Dream World funcionality, and new Pokemon forms (including Black Kyurem and White Kyurem - on display in the box art).
